Cuba to Host G-77 + China Summit: Extends Invitation to Prime Minister Hun Manet

INTERNATIONAL: In an announcement made by H.E. Liurka Rodríguez Barrios, the Ambassador of Cuba in Cambodia, it has been revealed that Cuba is set to host the Group 77 + China Summit from the 15th to the 16th of September. The summit, themed "Current Development Challenges: Role of science, technology & innovation," is expected to provide an opportunity for South countries to collaborate, reinvigorate their visions, and identify initiatives for development.

Cuba's assumption of the Chairmanship of G-77 and China in January was met with widespread international recognition for its principled stance in defending the interests of developing nations. This leadership role demands an extraordinary diplomatic effort and is a source of pride for the nation.

Under Cuba's Chairmanship, a series of meetings in the fields of education, tourism, and the environment have been convened. These meetings have not only stimulated discussions from the perspective of the Global South but have also contributed to the advocacy for the interests of developing countries.

Cuba expressed its gratitude to the Kingdom of Cambodia for its support as a member of the group. Cambodia has actively participated in these events, with messages from key ministers, including those responsible for Education, Culture and Fine Arts, Science and Technology, and other high-ranking officials.

Leaders from various countries have confirmed their participation in the G-77 plus China Summit, including United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Notable leaders on the guest list include the Presidents of Laos, Sri Lanka, Brazil, and more.

In a noteworthy development, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez has extended an invitation to Prime Minister Hun Manet to attend the summit in Havana. In his letter, President Diaz-Canel expressed, "It would be a great honor to receive you in Havana and count on your valuable presence and active contribution at this important summit."

The primary focus of Cuba's Chairmanship of G-77 + China is to promote international solidarity and cooperation to support the post-pandemic recovery efforts in developing countries. It's important to note that G-77 + China is the largest and most diverse negotiation group at the multilateral level, comprising 134 member states.

As the world prepares for this significant summit hosted by Cuba, all eyes are on the valuable collaborations and initiatives that may emerge to address pressing global challenges and foster development in the South.
